‘Travelling art exhibition’ comes to Rawalpindi from Punjab

* Forty-three art pieces highlight socio-economic and religio-political issues and ideas with vibrant aesthetic imagery

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday opened a five-day exhibition of paintings by 43 artists from the Punjab on its premises.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chairman Zafarul Haq inaugurated the ‘traveling exhibition’, which is being held in the city after Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal and Sargodha.

Murree and Gujranwala will also host the exhibition arranged by Punjab Council of the Arts (PCA) on June 13 and June 18 respectively.

Art lovers, especially students, turned up on the RAC premises in large numbers to see the exhibition, where 43 pieces of calligraphy, miniature, landscapes, figurative works, abstract and sculpture were put on display.

These pieces highlighted socio-economic and religio-political issues and ideas with vibrant aesthetic imagery.

The artists whose works was exhibited were Mian Ijazul Hassan, Ghulam Rasul, Shahid Jalal, Zubaida Javed, Shahnawaz, Kaleem Khan, Ghulam Mustafa, Rahat Naveed Masood, Dr Musarrat Hasan, Zarah David, Maleeha Azmi Aga, Zarina Khursheed, Munnawarul Islam, Arif Khan, Dr Shahida Manzoor, Azeem Iqbal, Muhammad Ali, Sumera Jawad, Samina Zaheer, M Arshad, Samina Nadeem, Saba Rasheed, Shehla Farooq, Abdul Khaliq, Ayesha Siddiqui, Shahidi, Munnawar Mohyuddin, Anila Zulfiqar, Abid Khan, Iqbal Ahmed Khokhar, Sara Adnan, Aqib Sharif, Samiha Yasmeen Qadeer, Mehboob Ali, Nida Mustafa, Naeela Aamir, Saira Dar, Riffat Chughtai, Nida Salman, Hina Mehboob, Akbar Ali and Andleeb Rana.

“Superb! Through this exhibition, the Punjab Council of the Arts has provided young artists of Potohar region with an opportunity to get insight into contemporary art and have better introduction of various styles and media used by senior artists,” said Ashar Chauhan, an art student.

He said the exhibition would prove to be a source of inspiration and learning for art students. He said such exhibitions would be organized regularly so that art students could get maximum knowledge about senior artists.

PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq praised the PCA and the RAC for promoting the country’s soft image through art. He also appreciated the works of the artists for investing skills and time in art promotion.

He said artists had depicted true cultural life of Pakistani people in their pieces.

RAC Director Naheed Manzoor said on the occasion that the works displaced were a beautiful mix of art and creativity together with diverse vision of artistic minds.

She said the RAC was striving to promote fine arts and culture, and conducted 30 classes every day to impart education in different form of fine arts in this regard.

The exhibition will continue till June 12.
